Community Relations
We are committed to building strong, trusting relationships with KairosPDX families and the broader community. Through culturally responsive capacity building, family engagement, and intentional programming, we foster connection, collaboration, and collective growth.
At KairosPDX, we believe families are a child’s first teachers, and children thrive when their families are supported. Our Family Connections Program strengthens that foundation by walking alongside families—offering guidance, partnership, and connection.
We also recognize Portland’s rich network of family resources. Our role is to serve as a trusted bridge, connecting families to the tools, services, and opportunities they need to flourish.
Family Engagement
The legacy of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) is embedded into daily life and classrom teachings at KairosPDX. Every classroom is named after an HBCU, and our assemblies highlight HBCU history and alumni, bringing our leaders, staff, families, and community together. These celebrations uplift the expectation that every Leader is worthy of excellence, higher education, and limitless opportunity.
HBCU Excellence
KairosPDX takes a holistic approach to mental health, supporting the academic and emotional growth of Preschool–5th Grade Leaders. Through on-site counseling, small-group skill-building, and family-requested services, we provide safe spaces for expression and resilience. Every classroom is equipped with social-emotional learning tools and calming resources, ensuring all Leaders benefit from strategies that promote well-being and self-regulation.

Community Action Sessions
Community Action Sessions (CAS), are one of the ways our partners can support KairosPDX. CAS aims to expand access to quality enrichment opportunities for our KairosPDX leaders through creating direct access to the rich and diverse learning in the areas of Health and Wellness, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), Arts and Culture, and Service Learning. CAS community partners work within our school on a weekly basis to connect leaders to their potential future passions and interests.
Government Affairs
We work in close collaboration with our partners and justice-centered leaders across Oregon to educate for meaningful, systemic change. Our primary focus has been historically underserved children and families and their academic opportunity and success. Through strategic engagement at both the state and local levels, we help raise up community advocates to champion policies that expand opportunity and promote justice for all children. We are actively represented at state and local policy tables to educate decision makers and establish ourselves as thought leaders moving towards greater impact and opportunity for children. All of the research points to the need for children to have these skills as well as care and connection to build the foundation of resiliency that they need to thrive.

Many of the things we need can wait. The child cannot wait. Right now is the time his bones are being formed, his blood is being made, and his senses are being developed. To him we cannot answer ‘Tomorrow.’ His name is ‘Today.’
